EnglishNew National Energy Efficiency Standards for Commercial Freezers Fully Implemented in 2026; Tier 1 Efficiency Becomes a Mandatory Procurement Threshold

Starting January 2026, the new national standard for commercial freezer energy efficiency (GB 4343.1) officially takes effect. The energy efficiency threshold has been raised by approximately 15% overall, making Tier 1 energy efficiency the standard requirement for market entry. The new standard covers refrigerators, freezers, dual-temperature units, and display cabinets, requiring improved Coefficient of Performance (COP) for refrigeration systems, thicker cabinet insulation, and the standard inclusion of inverter compressors and high-efficiency fans. Estimates suggest a 400L Tier 1 energy efficiency freezer consumes as little as 0.85 kWh per day, saving approximately 2,400 RMB annually in electricity compared to Tier 2 models. Currently, Tier 1 energy efficiency models from mainstream brands account for over 70% of the market, with full DC inverter technology combined with R290 refrigerant becoming the standard energy-saving solution.
